BEIJING. July 1 (Interfax) - The rioting in Uzbekistan in May
showed that all countries should further join their efforts in fighting
terrorism, extremism and separatism, Shanghai Cooperation Organization
Executive Secretary Zhang Deguang said at a press conference in Beijing
on Friday.
"The events in Uzbekistan showed that armed groups tried to provoke
unrest in order to destabilize the situation in that country and in
Central Asia, and we cannot allow this to happen. We cannot make human
rights martyrs out of terrorists," Zhang said in reply to a question
from Interfax.
"Three manifestations of evil, namely terrorism, extremism, and
separatism, pose the main threat to stability in Central Asia now," he
said.
"It is inadmissible to instigate people to organize revolutions.
Stability is the main condition for the region's development," Zhang
said.
